Matthew Thomas Lynch, 35, of Hollis, NH died unexpectedly on December 20, 2023.
Matthew graduated from Hollis Brookline High School in 2007 where his classmates voted him as having the best laugh. During his high school years, Matthew’s academic success and extracurricular activities earned him membership in The National Honor Society. He went on to Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, earning a Bachelor of Commerce and a minor in Spanish.
Upon graduating from college, he participated in a World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) program in France for 3 months. After returning to Canada, he passed the French Language Proficiency test and became a resident of Montreal, Quebec where he lived for several years.
Matthew was employed as an Equity Research Associate at Dundee Capital Markets in Montreal, QC. He was later a freelance researcher for the International Institute for Sustainable Development in Montreal where he co-authored The State of Sustainability Initiatives Review 2014, which he co-presented at the United Nations. He was certified with CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) and worked at Bouchereau Lingua International, Montreal, QC.
Matthew had a zest for travel, adventure and learning. In addition to two coast-to-coast road trips in the US, he spent significant time in Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Dominican Republic, Taiwan, Mexico, France, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. He also visited Costa Rica, Switzerland, Ireland, South Korea and Japan. With a passion for learning new languages, he was fluent in Spanish and French, conversant in Portuguese, and was currently studying Chinese and Japanese. Matthew’s other hobbies included reading, competitive chess, wakeboarding, and powerlifting.
He was predeceased by his brother Kevin Lynch. He is survived by his parents Tom and Susan Lynch of Hollis, NH, his maternal grandparents John and Louise DiMattia of Merrimack, NH, his paternal grandparents Larry and Kathleen Lynch of Chelmsford, MA, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Matthew struggled with mental illness and depression through the later third of his life. He spent his final six months at home in Hollis, NH where he fought hard daily and was proactive with treatment. Although there were hopeful glimpses of his “best laugh” returning, he finally succumbed and completed suicide.
